Free-Hold, Lot 1 – Ray Group
Austaralia, Victoria Mounth Hotham – 2007
In the alpine village of Mount Hotham, the Ray Group developed a compound of residential lots, for which our studio was commissioned to design the urban layout.
Lot 1, a triangular plot, was entrusted to us to establish a strong architectural imprint for the entire development. The site’s unique shape and prominent position called for a bold design, one that could express character and resilience in response to both the topography and the harsh alpine climate.
Winter in this region can be extreme, with snowfall reaching up to 2.5 meters. As such, the structure was designed to withstand these conditions while offering maximum comfort and connection to the landscape.
The wooden construction features large glazed surfaces, framing panoramic views of the ski slopes and snow-covered valleys. Inside, the entire flooring is heated, ensuring a high level of comfort during the long, cold winter season.
This project reflects the studio’s commitment to integrating form, function, and environmental context, creating a residence that is both visually striking and attuned to its setting.
