Club La Puntilla

Cuba, La Habana Puntilla de Cuba – 2006

Commissioned by one of my earliest clients, this seaside club was designed for a spectacular site on the Puntilla de Cuba, directly overlooking the ocean. The project embraces an open architectural language and was conceived with a strong emphasis on cost-efficiency and climatic responsiveness.
A central design feature is the innovative “Green Beam” concept, an architectural element that responds dynamically to the shifting ventilation patterns throughout the day, allowing the building to function almost like a living engine.
The interstitial spaces between floors are carefully designed to encourage natural airflow, while three-layer sheet metal cladding is used to absorb and dissipate direct heat, functioning thermally in a way similar to a motorcycle engine head.
A large brise-soleil façade provides further protection from the tropical sun while maintaining openness toward the sea.
The project is an example of climate-conscious design, where passive systems and material logic replace mechanical solutions, resulting in a sustainable and expressive architectural identity.
